Mindfulness in the Workplace
Mindfulness in the Workplace is for those who would like to bring mindfulness into workplace environments. Rather than teaching a particular pre-existing program, this course is about understanding the unique needs of each workplace, whether it's a business, religious institution, academic setting, or other context. Learners will have access to sample files and tools to start strong, based on the latest research of mindfulness and workplace effectiveness.
A year-long membership to the Mindfulness in the Workplace Community is included, with regularly scheduled webinars, ongoing articles of interest, and a wealth of editable presentations, files, and Community member engagement.
Course Structure
There are four interactive, teacher-led Class Sessions every other week delivered live online, each lasting four hours. On alternate weeks, 2 1/2 hour Working Sessions hold the space for use cases, issues, and questions that participants are encountering from the previous class.
Course Themes
Class 1 -- The Workplace Landscape
Our first class together explores the variety of workplace settings, and how mindfulness may fulfill the needs of those unique spaces.
Working Session -- Workplace Analysis
This takes the learning and materials from the first class, applying them to various contexts you may be considering or are already encountering.
Class 2 -- Building Best Fit Offerings
Building on our work in Class 1, the focus now turns to what mindfulness offerings could be developed, and how to design a stepped plan of implementation.
Working Session -- Offering List Creation
Merging the needs of the workplace with mindfulness programming options, we start building a list of potential in-scope offerings.
Class 3 -- Practical Considerations
We explore pragmatic details of how to show effectiveness, use of technology, and a variety of material considerations before opening your offerings.
Working Session -- Checklist Development
In our final Working Session, you and your colleagues review the Readiness Checklist for each of your mindfulness programs.
Class 4 -- Maintaining and Growing
Once you’re initial offering has been started, we examine how to adjust your plans to best support ongoing growth while maintaining program integrity.
Follow-Up Session
We’ll have an opportunity to check in as a group to see how your work has been progressing, and explore what you’ve encountered.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
MBSR has been the gold standard secular mindfulness program since its development by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the 1970’s at the University of Massachusetts. Participants often experience beneficial outcomes for stress, depression, anxiety, burnout, improved sleep, better concentration, increased compassion, and deeper listening, based on four decades of research.
Mindfulness Foundations
Mindfulness Foundations offers a less intensive live class and home assignment load than a heavier weight course like MBSR. It was developed for those who are exceptionally over-committed, and cannot attend a more robust program.
