Episode 066 :: Donald Altman :: Clearing Emotional Clutter

Donald Altman

Author and teacher Donald Altman joins us to speak about his new book Clearing Emotional Clutter: Mindfulness Practices for Letting Go of What’s Blocking Your Fulfillment and Transformation.

Have you ever had your attention captured by an emotional Groundhog Day, when you get stuck, spinning on a particular emotion? I have, and when it’s a pleasant feeling my tendency is to go with it, and when it’s unpleasant, push against it — which only makes the feeling dig in its heels and stay put. Neither is necessarily a good long-term strategy for how we relate to our emotions, so what else might we do?

Donald Altman is the author of Clearing Emotional Clutter, One-Minute Mindfulness, and several other books about mindfulness. He is a practicing psychotherapist and former Buddhist monk. An award-winning writer and an expert on mindful eating, he teaches in the neurobiology program at Portland State University.
