Episode 036 :: Jason Siff :: Thoughts Are Not the Enemy: An Innovative Approach to Meditation Practice
Jason Siff
Jason Siff joins us to speak about his new book, Thoughts Are Not the Enemy: An Innovative Approach to Meditation Practice.
One of the most common misconceptions about meditation is that, as soon as you start, your thoughts will stop. Even when this misconception is clarified, there may still be the lingering goal of a perfectly still mind, with no thoughts arising to disturb the tranquility. Although that may be a state which arises over time, for many of us, thoughts remain our constant companion in contemplative practice. Eventually, with the help of good teachers like today’s guest, we come to accept that thoughts really are not our enemy, they are simply part of experience in the moment.
Jason Siff, a Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka in the late 1980’s, has been teaching meditation in the United States since 1990. He is the founding teacher of the Skillful Meditation Project in Los Angeles.
